Why couldn't world cup winner lionel messi return to Argentina with the 'real' trophy?

One of the reasons for all the struggle for Argentina, who won the FIFA World Cup in Qatar, was to lift the trophy that every footballer dreams of. Every team's eyes light up after seeing its golden color.

Like Maradona and Zidane, the greatest player of his era, Lionel Messi, won the final in Qatar and won the trophy, while the team players can be seen posing with the World Cup trophy upon arrival in Argentina. But did you know? It is said that the trophy in Messi's hands is fake with only gold plating on it.

The 1930-designed trophy was brought home by the Brazilian team after winning the World Cup in Mexico in 1970. The trophy was previously stolen from an exhibition in London but was later recovered by a dog named 'Pickles' during a walk with his owner in South London.

Then in 1983, the trophy was stolen again when it was placed in Rio de Janeiro, the capital of Brazil, by the winning team. The stolen trophy was never recovered.

In 1970 FIFA held a competition for a new trophy in which 53 designs were submitted. Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga won the competition for this design, in which two human beings hold the globe high in the air.

The designer believed that the world is round like a football and he created this design inspired by it.

The trophy was introduced at the 1974 World Cup, which was hosted by West Germany.

So what is so special about this FIFA trophy?

Made of 18-carat gold, this 15-inch tall trophy weighs a little over six kilograms. Below the trophy are the names of the 12 World Cup-winning teams.

Why wasn't Messi given the actual trophy?

This trophy has a unique place in the world history of sports. According to FIFA, very few people are allowed to touch the trophy, including winners and heads of state.

This golden trophy is awarded to the winning team of the World Cup but actually, it remains with FIFA.

According to FIFA rules, the actual trophy remains with FIFA, but the winning team is given it temporarily. The original trophy is then retained by FIFA while the winning team is permanently awarded the tournament edition trophy, also known as a 'replica' by some.

In the year 2005, FIFA decided that they would no longer award the actual trophy to the winning team. Previously they were allowed to display the original trophy in their federation's trophy cabinet and return it to FIFA, but since 2006 the winning teams have only been given the original trophy during the awards ceremony and then FIFA employees have returned it. Take it back. Yes, of course, the winning team is given a copy. According to FIFA, the trophy received by the winning team is not made entirely of gold but is coated with gold. It shows the year of the World Cup, the host country, and the name of the winning team.

The rule of awarding the trophy for winning the World Cup three times has also changed, otherwise the 2014 winners Germany could have taken the trophy back with them.
